The High-Level Policy Dialogue between West African family farmers and senior scientists from the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA)
This High-Level Policy Dialogue was co-chaired by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food and the Director of Oxfam-Novib. Over a 3 day period, scientists from the Alliance for the Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and its main donors discussed the governance and priorities of agricultural research with small and family farmers (men and women) from Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Benin. Participants also included representatives of farming communities who experienced the impacts of the Green Revolution in Asia and Latin America.
This intercultural dialogue took place in English, French, Bambara, Spanish, and Persian with the help of a team of interpreters.
The facilitated discussions identified converging and diverging views among participants who engaged in this policy dialogue. Despite some converging perspectives, the diverging views between AGRA scientists and farmers highlighted two very different visions for the future of food and farming in West Africa.
